Product Details, Materials, and Features

Quick Answer

Most SilkSilky products are made from 100% Pure Mulberry Silk, with a small number of loungewear and fitted styles that use silk knit or silk blends for stretch and comfort. Material, momme weight, lining, and features can vary by style, so the product description on each item's page is always the best place to confirm the exact details before you order. If anything isn't clear, our Customer Care team can confirm it for a specific item.

What are SilkSilky products made of?

We craft our products from ultra-luxurious 100% Pure Mulberry Silk, using fine-grade (6A) long-fiber mulberry silk and safe, non-toxic dyes. A select few items - mainly some loungewear, knit, or close-fitting styles - use silk knit fabric or a silk blend (for example, silk with a small amount of spandex) so the garment can stretch and fit comfortably, since pure silk has limited elasticity. These items still contain a generous amount of mulberry silk; the exact composition is always listed in the product description.

Because composition can differ by style, it's worth checking the product page before ordering if material matters to you. If an item arrives with a guarantee card that has a QR code, you can scan it to view the fabric certification details.

What does momme mean?

Momme (pronounced "mummy") is the unit used to measure the weight and density of silk - a better quality indicator for silk than thread count. The higher the momme, the more silk strands in the fabric, which generally means a heavier, more durable, and more luxurious feel. Our silk typically ranges from 11 to 30 momme:

  • 11 - 16 momme - lightweight; often used for delicate items like scarves and lighter garments
  • 17 - 22 momme - medium weight; suitable for sleepwear and bedding
  • 23 - 25 momme - heavyweight; ideal for high-end bedding and luxury garments that need extra durability
  • 30 momme - exceptionally luxurious; used on some of our pillowcases

Choosing a momme weight is mostly about preference: lighter weights feel airy and breathable, while heavier weights feel more substantial and hard-wearing. For sleepwear and bedding, 19 momme and 22 momme are the most popular choices, offering a balance of softness, durability, and value. You'll find the momme weight listed on each product's page.

What are the key features and benefits of silk?

Silk is a natural, protein-based fiber, which gives it qualities synthetic fabrics like satin (typically rayon, nylon, or polyester) can't fully match:

  • Gentle and hypoallergenic - naturally suited to sensitive skin, and resistant to common allergens such as dust mites and mold
  • Breathable and temperature-regulating - helps you stay cool in warmer weather and warm in cooler weather
  • Smooth on skin and hair - its low-friction surface is gentler on hair and skin than rougher fabrics
  • Moisture-friendly - helps skin and hair retain natural moisture
  • Natural and eco-conscious - a natural fiber rather than a synthetic one

When cared for properly, high-quality silk keeps its softness and sheen for a long time. For washing and care guidance, see How Do I Wash or Care for Silk?

How do I check the exact details of a specific item?

  1. Open the product page and review the listed material composition and momme weight.
  2. Check the feature details for that style - such as lining, filling, pockets, removable padding, elastic waistbands, or whether a slip is included. These vary from item to item and shouldn't be assumed across products.
  3. If you have an authenticity or certification question, scan the QR code on the product guarantee card when one is included.
  4. If the page doesn't answer your question, contact our Customer Care team with the product link, SKU, order number, or a photo of the item label, and we'll confirm the details.
