How Do Installments or Pay-Later Work With Refunds?

Quick Answer

If you paid with a pay-later option such as Afterpay, Klarna, or PayPal Pay in 4, your installment plan is adjusted after your return is processed to reflect what you kept. Any refund owed goes back to your original payment method, and your remaining installments are reduced accordingly.

These are independent third-party providers, so you'll also manage your payment schedule and statements directly with them. Keep making any scheduled payments until your provider updates your plan, then contact us via live chat or the Contact Us page if anything looks wrong.

How are pay-later providers different from paying directly?

Afterpay, Klarna, and PayPal Pay in 4 are third-party providers that let you split the cost of an order into installments, with the first payment usually taken at checkout and the rest charged over the following weeks. Because they manage your payment plan, you'll handle reminders, statements, payment dates, and missed-payment questions directly with the provider, even though you bought from SilkSilky.

We start the refund or invoice adjustment on our side once your return is processed; the provider then updates your plan or issues your refund on theirs.

What happens to my plan when I return part of my order?

If you return some of your items, your invoice or plan is adjusted to reflect what you've kept. The general pattern with each provider:

  • Klarna - Your invoice is adjusted to reflect the returned items. If you've already paid more than the value of what you kept, you'll receive a refund from Klarna for the difference.
  • PayPal Pay in 4 - If your refund is more than the balance you still owe, your PayPal account is refunded. If your refund is less than what's left to pay, it's spread across your remaining installments, lowering those amounts.
  • Afterpay - You'll be sent an updated invoice after your return is processed. If a refund is owed, it goes back to your original payment method.

What happens if I return my whole order?

If you return everything, your invoice is adjusted and you'll be refunded for the payments you've already made, returned through the provider to your original payment method. Refund timing depends on the provider and your bank, so allow time for it to appear, and check your provider account for the updated plan.

Can I pause, stop, or cancel an installment payment?

Installment and pay-later questions are handled case by case, and we can't guarantee that a scheduled payment can be paused, stopped, or refunded on request. Until your provider updates your plan, you may still need to make any payments that come due to avoid late fees.

If you're waiting on a return, exchange, or refund and a payment date is coming up, contact us with your order details and your return tracking or delivery proof so we can check the status, and contact your provider as well about the upcoming payment. Note that some pay-later orders can't be cancelled once placed, so if you're not happy with an order, returning it is usually the route to a refund.

What if I keep getting reminders or my bill hasn't updated?

Provider plans don't always update the moment your return is delivered, so you may still see the original amount or receive reminders for a short time. If your return shows delivered but your plan hasn't been adjusted, or you're getting reminders after returning items:

  • Keep your return tracking number, delivery confirmation, or a screenshot showing successful delivery.
  • Contact us with that proof so we can check your return and refund status and follow up where needed.
  • Contact your provider about any payment due so you understand your options while the update is pending.

I haven't received my Klarna statement - what should I do?

If you used Pay in 4 with Klarna, your statement is sent by Klarna (not SilkSilky) to your registered email once your order is placed. If you don't see it, check your junk or spam folder first. If it still hasn't arrived, contact Klarna Customer Service, or reach out to our Customer Care team and we'll help where we can.

In what situations should I contact Customer Care?

Please reach out if:

  • Your return shows delivered but your pay-later plan still shows the original amount
  • You're receiving reminders after returning items and your refund hasn't appeared
  • A payment date is approaching and your return hasn't been processed yet
  • You returned your whole order and want to confirm your refund status
  • We've asked for proof of delivery or a return tracking screenshot

For questions about your payment schedule, statements, late fees, or whether your plan was accepted, contact your provider (Afterpay, Klarna, or PayPal) directly, as they manage those details.
